Happy New Year, my friend. Wishing you a sparkling 2014! I hope it’ll be a wonderful year in which all of your dreams and ambitions will be fulfilled.

January traditionally represents the start of something new. Lots of us begin the month with big dreams, ambitions, wishes and hopes for year ahead. We collectively vow to make this year better than the last. We take out gym memberships, search for new jobs, plan our next holiday, start diets and give up drinking or smoking.

Unfortunately we all know know how this story ends…

I’ve come across many explanations why people don’t stick to their new year’s resolutions or goals. Some argue it’s because of the January Blues. Others say there was something wrong with your goals: they were too ambitious, not smart enough, not aligned to your priorities.

Whilst these are all valid explanations, they don’t get to the heart of the matter.

I believe there’s one, and only one, core reason why some people are able to turn to their resolutions or goals into reality and others don’t.

The thing that sets the former apart from the latter is that they passionately know what they want. This is more than ‘just’ knowing what you want. It’s knowing what you want plus a burning desire to turn it into reality.

I believe this is where it all starts. Passionately knowing what you want is the starting point of any and all achievements.

When you passionately know what you want, you will put all of your energy, power and effort into reaching that goal. You don’t just wish or hope for things to happen. No, you will do everything you can in pursuit of that goal.

Everything I care about and do is guided by this principle of ‘passionately knowing what you want’ and it’s helped me to stick to my goals no matter how tough things got. That burning desire and vision on mind simply keep me going.

I’m sure you can think of a situation in your life where you experienced this. It’s quite easy to spot when this applied to you – a time when you really wanted something. Was it when you managed to get your very first job, or the role you thought you always wanted? Perhaps you’ve felt it when you pushed yourself to your limits in preparation for some kind of physical challenge? Or maybe you experienced it when you found someone you loved and dedicated yourself to finding happiness with that person?

Consciously getting to that state of mind can be a little bit trickier though. As Napoleon Hill, author of Think and Grow Rich cites: “most people never learn the art of transmuting their strongest emotions into dreams of a constructive nature.

That’s why I’ve planned some workshops and even a retreat in beautiful Glastonbury to help you achieve exactly that.

P.S. if you’re someone who doesn’t believe in new year’s resolutions or setting goals for the year ahead, you may want to reconsider this approach as people who consciously set goals (and write them down!) are far more likely to achieve them than those who don’t set goals…
